Overview

Murcott Energy was consulted by a Cable Lay Vessel OEM to provide a structural assessment of their A-Frame and Winch system.

The customer also required Murcott Energy to provide classification society liaison with Lloyd’s Register, and to achieve Design Appraisal Documentation.

Application

The A-Frame and Winch were required to lower and lift a Remote Operating Vehicle (ROV) from the vessel to the sea floor in conditions up to and including Sea State 4. The analysis required to account for all dynamic loads and the heel and trim of the vessel.

The initial results identified some areas that required modification. Murcott Energy was able to work swiftly with the client to identify viable solutions. Once the design was fully validated for structural integrity, the technical reporting pack was submitted to Lloyd’s Register for review.

The design and supporting documentation subsequently achieved the Design Approval Documentation from Lloyd’s Register, enabling the customer to proceed to manufacture ahead of urgent cable lay campaigns for the vessel.
